KT Program Knowledge Provider Workshop

In the United States alone, more than 70 million baby boomers will reach retirement age over the next two decades. While the economic downturn may delay retirement for many baby boomers, these valued employees will retire eventually, taking with them a lifetime of knowledge and skills that are difficult, if not impossible, to replace. Unfortunately, study after study shows that few companies have taken steps to prepare for the inevitable. Now, more than ever, organizations need to implement the necessary strategies for accelerating the transfer of knowledge from the senior to the younger employees to preserve knowledge, skills, and experience critical to an organization’s continued success.

Due to the anticipated high attrition trend, companies face a number of challenges:

  • How do they prepare for many employees leaving at once?
  • How can they preserve the institutional memory of longtime employees and transfer that knowledge?
  • How can they store and transfer the lessons learned from their most experienced workers before they change jobs or retire

Companies are just beginning to address these questions by developing and implementing knowledge transfer solutions for closing the knowledge and skill gaps caused by high attrition rates. Many Human Resources and Training professionals are suddenly finding themselves thrust into new roles that are unfamiliar to them. Previously concerned with employee training and development, now their focus is on retaining critical intellectual capital.

This three-day workshop is designed for professionals who want to understand knowledge transfer and how to provide solutions that will help their organization retain its most critical knowledge and skills. The workshop addresses the above questions and provides a systematic approach for closing the knowledge and skill gap caused by high attrition rates.

The KT Program Knowledge Provider Workshop provides real and effective solutions for:

  • Identifying key positions and people where potential knowledge loss is most imminent
  • Assessing the criticality of the potential knowledge loss
  • Developing a plan of action to ensure the capture of that critical knowledge and an appropriate method of transferring it

Graduates of the workshop can easily answer the following five questions:

  • What should be the knowledge transferred?
  • To whom should the knowledge be transferred?
  • By whom should knowledge be transferred?
  • How should knowledge be transferred?
  • What is the effect of the knowledge transfer?

This workshop is designed for:

  • Seasoned or New Knowledge Transfer Practitioners
  • Knowledge Management and Knowledge Retention Practitioners
  • HR and HRD Professionals
  • Managers and Supervisors
  • Anyone, at any level of the organization, who is concerned about the loss human capital

Upon successfully completing this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Inventory and catalogue a company’s critical knowledge
  • Identify key knowledge holders for each activity
  • Determine risk-of-loss of critical knowledge, skills, and behaviors
  • Prioritize critical, at-risk activities for Knowledge Transfer (KT)
  • Establish KT relationships between knowledge providers and knowledge recipients
  • Ensure critical business knowledge is retained and protected from loss
